Ulcergard
Horses are under constant stress to perform at their peak. Changes in their routines and diets can cause Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome. There is preventive horse medication to make sure ulcers do not form.
Ulcergard is a new nonprescription horse medication for the
prevention of EGUS in horses that are 600lbs and over. With horses
that weigh more than 1,200 lbs, two doses are recommend. If your
horse has any preexisting conditions, or is less than 600lbs,
please consult a veterinarian.
The active ingredient in the Ulcergard horse medication is omeprazole, which belongs to a group of drugs called proton pump inhibitors. They decrease the amount of acid that is produced in the stomach. Excess stomach acid production can lead to ulcers and gastroesophageal reflux disease. By reducing the acid produced in the stomach, Omeprazole effectively prevents the chances of your horse from getting an ulcer.
